The Spinoza house in Voorburg identified In the period 1663 to 1669 Spinoza lived in Voorburg, a quiet village, located on the Amstel within walking distance of The Hague. In Spinoza in Voorburg, a beautiful edition of the association ‘Het Historisch Voorburg’ (2022), it is shown that Spinoza lived in an outbuilding at the back of a house called the 'Schoenmakershuis', which can be situated at no. 39-37 in the current Kerkstraat. He lived there with the painter Daniël Harmensz. Tydeman, who rented the property. In the plague year 1664, Spinoza fled Voorburg to spend part of the winter 1664-1665 with friends in Schiedam. When Tydeman bought a house in Herenstraat in Voorburg and moved in, Spinoza probably followed him, but not for long... He moved to The Hague short after 5 september 1669.
